The Marine Corps Athlete of the Year is awarded annually to one male and one female active duty Marine. Marines who have excelled in varsity, All-Marine, national and international competitions are eligible to be nominated for the award. Nominations go through the chain of command and the Athletic Director at the athlete’s local installation. Nominations are then sent to Headquarters Marine Corps where the winners are selected. The winners were chosen based on their athletics skills and how well they embody Marine Corps values.
Marine Corps Sports Programs are designed to enhance the fitness and resilience of Marines and their families and functions to support alternative Physical Training (PT) options, military to military engagement, and the development of unit cohesion. Sports Programs are directly related to combat readiness and serve as the main mechanism through which a variety of programs, services and activities are provided to Marines and their families. The Deputy Commandant of the United States Marine Corps for Manpower and Reserve Affairs LtGen. Mark A. Brilakis, will host the 2017 United States Marine Corps Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremony at 6 p.m., July 12, 2017, at the National Museum of the Marine Corps in Quantico, Va.
