2010 Navy Marine Corps Conference
This year the Marine Corps will be participating in a combined Navy/USMC Combat Operational Stress Control (COSC) Conference, which will be held on 18-20 May 2010 at the Town & Country Resort, San Diego, CA. The conference will bring together individuals and organizations from around the world to roll out the new combined USMC/Navy COSC doctrine, as well as new policies, research, data, programs, interventions, and best practices pertinent to COSC in both the Marine Corps and Navy. The conference is open to leaders, chaplains, medical and mental health personnel, Marine and Family Service Center counselors, family members and others with interest in COSC. Continuing education units (CEUs) will be available for medical and counseling personnel who attend. We encourage anyone interested to attend and submit presentations for the conference. Registration is not yet open.
COSC Road Shows
COSC training will be offered to leaders, providers, and all hands at all major installations in the spring of 2010. Dates and locations TBD.

American Red Cross Course - "Coping with Deployments: Psychological First Aid for Military Families"
We are pleased to announce the release of the new Red Cross course entitled "Coping With Deployments: Psychological First Aid for Military Families". The course provides significant information on Resiliency strategies for adults and children, as well as explaining the steps in performing PFA for others under stress. It has an Adult Section, a Childrens Section and a significant Resource and Referral Section. This new 4 hour course was designed exclusively for military families and is now available to be taught in the following 16 states plus Washington, D.C.: Alabama, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Florida, Hawaii, Indiana, Minnesota, Nebraska, New Hampshire, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, and West Virginia. The Red Cross plans on making the course available to the rest of the country by late spring/early summer 2009.
MD Informatics, a small veteran-owned and physician led healthcare information company, developed the content for the two hour course, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Traumatic Brain Injury, to address the unique needs of military personnel returning home from active duty. The training will enable civilian providers to recognize and care for active-duty and retired service members who show signs of TBI or PTSD. The University of Louisville will award CME credit as an accredited agency and joint CME sponsor.
Upon completion of the course, physicians will receive two hours of Category I AMA Physician Recognition Award credit. There is no cost to physicians taking the course.
