Department of Defense (DoD) demographics show that there are just over 965,000 children ages three to eighteen in military families. Only about 110,000 of those children are students in stateside and overseas DoD schools, which means that over 850,000 military-connected students attend education programs in the civilian community. Headquarters Marine Corps Children, Youth and Teen Programs (MRY) assumed the responsibility for School Age Family Member Education issues, and has pledged to work together with Marines, family members, sister services, military related committees and private organizations to serve in a liaison capacity overseeing military concerns and school age education issues with the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) and Local Education Agencies educating military connected children.
