TOP MARINE RUNNERS SELECTED FOR INTER-SERVICE MARATHON RACE

HQMC (MR) QUANTICO, VA – Top Marine runners from bases and stations across the nation have been selected to represent the Marine Corps in the U.S. Armed Forces Marathon Championship in Arlington, Va., on Sunday, Oct. 25th.
            The Armed Forces Marathon is held in conjunction with the Marine Corps Marathon. It is the top marathon competition between the different branches of the U.S. military services, including the: U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard.

42nd CISM WORLD MILITARY MARATHON CHAMPIONSHIP

BELGRADE, Serbia - Within the organization of this year’s Belgrade Marathon, the 42nd CISM Military World Marathon Championship (International Military Sports Council CISM – 140 nation-members) was held.  The CISM Marathon was hosted by the Ministry of Defense, Serbian Army GS Headquarter and Military Academy.  A total of 91 men and 18 women participated in the CISM Marathon Championship. A total of 318 runners started the race. Twenty-four nations were in attendance: Albania, Algeria, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Canada, Croatia, Ecuador, Macedonia, Germany, Hungary, Lebanon, Lithuania, Malta, Morocco, Netherlands, Poland, Qatar, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Turkey, and the United States.  The competition was conducted in Belgrade, Serbia on April 18, 2009.

Jeremy Brown, who grew up training in the Las Vegas desert.

The war zone is where he steeled himself for today's Marine Corps Marathon and the Challenge Cup, a trans-Atlantic rivalry within the marathon.

"Actually, it was really a decent training environment," said Sgt. Brown. I tried to get most of running outside unless there was a sandstorm and I wasn't allowed to run. People gave me some strange looks when I would head out there around noon."

U.S. Armed Forces Participates in 2008 CISM World Military Marathon Championship

The 41st Military World Marathon Championship consisted of a lot of enthusiasm, thousands of spectators, an extraordinary atmosphere and a lot of passion. The competition took place inside the “Maratona d’Italia”.   Runners from 25 CISM nations (81 men and 15 women) were among the more than 8000 marathon competitors.  Poland’s Adam Draczynski and Italy’s Rosalba Console respectively won the men’s and women’s individual competition. Poland also took first place in the men’s team competition and was followed by Italy and Qatar. This was an extraordinary day of sport and friendship! ARLINGTON, Va.(Nov. 1, 2007) -- Leathernecks from around the Corps came up big here Sunday on a blustery morning at the 32nd annual Marine Corps Marathon.

A record-setting 22,000 competitors hit the streets running through northern Virginia and Washington, D.C.

The U.S. Marine Corps soundly defeated the British Royal Marines and Navy to capture both the mens and womens Challenge Cups for the first time in 10 years.

Second Lt. Sean Barrett, a student at The Basic School, surprised the field in the Marathon's 10K foot race, coming in first with a time of 33:06. See the C Section (Sports) for full coverage of the 10K.

ARLINGTON, Va. (Nov. 1, 2007) -- Major Megan McClung of Coupeville, Washington, has touched the hearts of many people, for many different reasons. As a public affairs officer in Iraq in 2006, she organized the Marine Corps Marathon for those Marines overseas taking part in Operation Iraqi Freedom. She was part of the Marine Corps family, the Naval Academy family and the family of the running community. She was killed on Dec. 6 by a roadside bomb last year in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. This year at the Marine Corps Marathon, a new award was given in her honor: The Penguin Award.

Navy Men and Army Women Win Armed Forces Cross Country

The Navy Men's Cross Country Team totaled 24 points to win the 2007 Armed Forces Cross Country Championship, which was conducted with USA Track & Field Winter Classic Cross Country Championship, 10 February, Boulder, Colorado.
