Iwakuni Youth Named 2005 Asia Youth of the Year

MCB QUANTICO - Jazman Thompson, an 18 year old member of the Boys and Girls Club of MCAS Iwakuni, Japan, was selected to represent the Asian Region in the upcoming Boys and Girls Club of  America Pacific Regional Youth of the Year Competition.

The Youth of the Year program, sponsored by The Reader's Digest Foundation, recognizes outstanding contributions to a members family, school, community and Boys & Girls Club, as well as personal challenges and obstacles overcome. Each state or region winner receives a $1,000 college scholarship from The Reader's Digest Foundation, and a laptop computer from the Beaumont Foundation of America, a non-profit philanthropic organization that donates technology equipment to schools and community-based organizations in underserved areas.
Thompson will go on to compete for the title of Pacific Youth of the Year, which involves the winners from states located in Boys & Girls Clubs of America's Pacific Region.  If named regional winner, she would be awarded a $5,000 college scholarship and advance to the national competition with a chance to win an additional $10,000 college scholarship.
