Marine Corps Food And Hospitality Excellence Award Winners Announced

Release Date: 5/20/2005

MCB QUANTICO - Forty-one Marine Corps Community Services (MCCS) Food and Hospitality activities have earned excellent ratings in the 2004 Marine Corps Food and Hospitality Excellence Awards program.
The awards were presented at the International Military Community Executives Association Awards Banquet in Chicago, IL on 20 May 2005.

The goal of this annual awards program is to provide meaningful recognition to nonappropriated fund food and hospitality activities that have achieved the highest degree of excellence during a fiscal year.

According to Carol Garland, Head of the Marine Corps Food and Hospitality Operations Branch, "The goal of the Excellence Award program is to recognize those food and hospitality facilities who not only meet the Marine Corps' high standards of excellence, but have exceeded the standards and by doing so, have exceeded the expectations of our guests."

Garland added, "For some of this year's awards recipients, it was the efforts of a single, innovative manager who had the energy, vision and skill to go into an operation, build a dynamic team, and attain levels of customer service not previously achieved by that activity. For others, it was the well-heeled professional who still has the passion for his or her role, and incorporates fresh and original ideas that continually improve the experience of both the guest and the employee."

MCCS nonappropriated fund food and hospitality activities such as snackbars, direct operated fast food outlets, clubs, restaurants, mobile canteens, temporary lodging facilities, and recreational lodging are eligible for the award. To be eligible for the award, individual food and hospitality activities must have operated for the entire past fiscal year, they must at least break even, and must show significant gains in customer service, financial performance, human resources, and operations. Each activity is evaluated against criteria of excellence established by the Food and Hospitality Operations Branch staff.  A panel from the Personal and Family Readiness Division, MCCSs headquarters organization, individually evaluates and judges each of the nominations against the award criteria.
