Larsen Appointed New Personal and Family Readiness Division Director

HQMC (MR), QUANTICO, VA - Maj. Gen. Timothy R. Larsen, Deputy Commander, U.S. Forces Japan, has been selected by the Commandant of the Marine Corps to be the new Director of the Personal and Family Readiness Division, Manpower and Reserve Affairs Department, Headquarters Marine Corps.

            Larsen, with a career of over 34 years as a Marine officer, is scheduled to begin his retirement from active duty in early September. He will succeed Brig. Gen. Michael P. Downs, (USMC, Retired), who will retire from civilian service on August 31, after nearly 40 years of combined active duty and civilian service to Marines and their family members.

            The Personal and Family Readiness Division is responsible for providing policy, plans, resources, and direct support to Marine Corps Community Services field activities and is also responsible for a number of military personnel programs, such as Casualty Assistance, Combat and Operational Stress Control, Sexual Assault Prevention and Response, DEERS Dependency Determination, Voting Assistance, Postal Services, and Personal Claims.
