Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for $16 Million MCAS Miramar Exchange Expansion and Renovation

MCAS MIRAMAR, CA - On Oct 19, 2007, at 11 AM, Commanding Officer, Colonel Christopher O'Connor will host a ribbon cutting ceremony for the newly renovated and expanded Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Miramar, Marine Corps Exchange.

      The new facility is a one-stop shopping complex conveniently co-located with the Commissary and Food Court. The renovated exchange will offer 100,000 square feet of indoor retail space and 16,000 square feet of outdoor retail space in an attractive plaza setting. The new store has a customer friendly design for easy shopping, a state-of-the-art electronics department and offers military uniform items with onsite tailoring and embroidery. The store also features the MCX exclusive lines of 1775 clothing and accessories, Exchange Select, and Another Corps Value home and consumable items, and an expanded product selection that will meet the needs of all customers from value-priced small kitchen appliances to high-end Coach handbags. On top of great every day savings, shoppers do not pay state sales taxes. Additionally, the MCX offers a Price Match Guarantee program.

 

     The Grand Opening celebration will continue through Oct. 21, with free entertainment, product sampling and demos, prizes giveaways, and in-store specials.  There will be four live bands performances, appearances by walkaround characters Hello Kitty and Chester the Cheetah, and the Panasonic Indy Racing League car and "Living in Hi-Def Tour" semi-truck. Show cars from JVC, Rockford Fosgate and Kenwood will also be on hand. Authorized exchange patrons can also enter to win the Grand Prizes: 2007 Ford Ranger and a 56" JVC HD television. Other prizes include a 2GB iPOD Nano, a Nikon Coolpix digital camera, Hitachi DVD players, and many more. The celebration will continue for 5 weeks with special events leading into the Holiday Shopping Season.

 

     The phased renovation of the store began on January 19, 2006 and cost approximately $16M. This new facility is the second MCX to incorporate the new retail master plan. These standards assure a desired level of convenience, efficiency and overall customer appeal for all MCX facilities. Every detail has been scrutinized and enhanced to reflect the MCX Brand Strategy; from the bold red & blue signage and illuminated marquees, to the brightly lit, enhanced aisle spacing, and new interior departmental and logo signage on the inside, to promote an image not unlike a Marine& clean, crisp, refined, and something in which to be immensely proud.

     Over the next five years, the MCX will continue an ongoing aggressive renovation/replacement strategy.  From FY05-FY09, MCCS will have invested $130M in 10 main stores, 12 Marine Marts, three service stations and two car washes.
