Gina Gonzalez, Gary Sinise, and Jeff Vezain perform as part of the Lt. Dan Band at U.S. Army Garrison Schweinfurt, Germany, July 7, 2008.
West Coast installations are hosting USO special events featuring Gary Sinise and the Lt. Dan Band as an opportunity to entertain as well as educate Marines and their families about resources available to assist them with the challenges of life in the Marine Corps.
Concerts are scheduled for the following dates and locations:
These concerts provide a forum through which Marines and their families can relax and enjoy a fun concert, as well as hear about the tools and resources available to them. Senior Marine Corps leaders and Congressional Medal of Honor recipients will also be at the concerts to talk about coping with stress and seeking help.
One resource that is available is the DSTRESS Line, a pilot program that offers Marines (Regular, Reserve, veteran or retiree) and their families a 24/7/365 anonymous, "By Marine, For Marine" call center to help increase resilience and develop the skills necessary to cope with the challenges of life in the Marine Corps.
The DSTRESS Line is staffed by veteran Marines, former FMF Corpsmen and licensed counselors familiar with Marine Corps culture. This resource enables Marines the opportunity to speak with "one of their own" about the stress in their lives-from common, everyday stressors to post-traumatic stress.
The DSTRESS Line is currently only available to Marines and their families in the TRICARE West Region, which is served by TriWest Healthcare Alliance and includes: Alaska; Arizona; California; Colorado; Hawaii; Idaho; Iowa; Kansas; Minnesota; Missouri; Montana; Nebraska; Nevada; New Mexico; North Dakota; Oregon; South Dakota; Utah; Washington; Wyoming; and a portion of western Texas that includes El Paso and the Ft. Bliss area.
