Keep Your SGLI Updated: Protect What Matters Most

Servicemembers’ Group Life Insurance (SGLI) provides low-cost term life insurance coverage to eligible Marines—up to $500,000 automatically as of March 1, 2023. Yet, 1 in 5 Marines have never accessed the SGLI Online Enrollment System (SOES) to confirm or update their elections.

Marines can log into SOES 24/7 through milConnect using a CAC or DS logon. Once logged in, click the blue “manage my SGLI” button to:

  • Update beneficiary information
  • Modify coverage amounts
  • Review and verify your current policy

Tip: Log in every two years or after any major life events (like marriage, divorce, or a new child).

Married to Another Service Member?

Make sure your marital status is updated in DEERS. If not, you won’t be able to make SGLI elections or access FAMILY SGLI in SOES.

Command Responsibility

Commanders must ensure Marines:

  1. Access SOES
  2. Make an election
  3. Click “Confirm and Certify” before exiting.

All eligible Marines are automatically enrolled in maximum SGLI coverage.  Marines have one calendar month to reduce or decline the increased coverage without being charged if your previously elected less or no coverage.

See MARADMIN 097/23 for full details.
