Holding Down the Home Front
During World War II, Americans were asked to make sacrifices for the nation. Everyday items like gas, sugar, meat, and canned goods were rationed, and many families tended “Victory Gardens” to supplement their food and show their patriotism.
Today, military families continue that legacy of sacrifice and dedication, holding down the home front in their own ways.
Challenges may include missed holidays, single parenting during deployment, deferred career plans, changing schools, saying goodbye to friends, or living far from family.
Every family is unique in how it navigates these challenges while maintaining resilience and connectedness.
This November, we celebrate the patriotism, resilience, and sacrifices of military families for Military Family Appreciation Month.
