One of the most challenging parts of moving overseas is the overseas suitability screening process for Marines and their family members. The current process can be complex and confusing and is often a key source of friction for Marines and their families.   

In May 2025, Marines and families will have a new resource to assist them – the Family Member Travel Screening Cell (FMTS). The FMTS Cell will help Marines and families successfully navigate the screening process and provide support before, during and after the screening.   

Key FMTS support will include: 

• Proactive communication with Marines and families to: 
  • Provide information about the screening process. 
  • Connect Marines and families to the appropriate medical screening office. 
  • Offer ongoing support for timely initiation and completion of screening. 
• ​Assistance resolving issues with medical screening offices. 
• Transparency of screening status for Marines, families, monitors, and commands.  
• Connecting Marines and families to helpful resources in their new community outside the continental United States.
