Supported Civilian Transition

Supported Civilian Transition

Leaving the Marine Corps is a major life transition—but you don’t have to navigate it alone. Building a strong support network, both on and off base, is essential for a successful shift to civilian life.

Start with the Transition Readiness Program (TRP)

Your first step should be the Transition Readiness Program. Designed specifically for transitioning Marines, TRP provides structured guidance through counseling, workshops, and the Transition Readiness Seminar (TRS).

Through TRP, Marines can:

  • Strengthen financial planning and budgeting skills.
  • Translate military experience into civilian career language.
  • Develop a personalized transition plan.

Just as important, TRP connects you with fellow Marines who are navigating the same transition—helping you build a network rooted in shared experience and support.

Gain Real-World Experience with SkillBridge

Another valuable resource is the Department of Defense SkillBridge Program. This program offers hands-on job training opportunities during your final 180 days of service, helping you gain real-world civilian work experience before separation.

SkillBridge participants can:

  • Build professional networks in their desired career field
  • Connect with mentors and industry leaders
  • Develop skills that translate directly to civilian employment.

These connections often become a lasting support system, making the transition smoother and more successful.

Expand Your Network Beyond the Military

In addition to official programs, your community extends far beyond the installation. Consider connecting with organizations and groups that support veterans and transitioning service members:

  • Marine for Life Network connects Marines with veterans and military-friendly employers
  • Marine Corps League, American Legion, and Veterans of Foreign Wars offer mentorship and assistance with VA benefits
  • Professional platforms like LinkedIn help you connect with veterans in your target industry
  • Local community groups, sports teams, and volunteer organizations can help you build friendships and feel at home in your new environment.

Build Your Next Chapter with Confidence

Transitioning out of the Marine Corps is more than leaving the service—it’s about building your next chapter. By combining the structured support of TRP and SkillBridge with strong community connections, you can move forward with confidence and create a solid foundation for long-term success.
